I do not think I have ever read a Lynsay Sands book before, but have recently started to read Scottish romance novels. I really enjoyed this book. The two characters meet in an unconvential way, have a bit of passion, and then discover they are engaged to each other. There is an underlying mystery throughout this novel (someone is trying to kill Evelinde and it might be connected to the past murders of the clan) but the romance aspect of it never gets lost. I found myself laughing out loud quite often throughout the book because Cullen never talks and Evelinde is never quiet...it tends to lead to some confusion.

This is not my type of book, but it was given to me so I read it. It was actually a very light and fun book to read.
Evelinde lives at her late father's estate, her brother is off fighting the crusades and she is under the care of her "wicked" stepmother. Her stepmother will do anything to make Eveelinde's life miserable to the point that she arranged a marriage through the king with the Devil of Donnachaidh. It has been rumored that he killed his father, uncle and late wife. Could this actually be true?
Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh known as the Devil of Donnachaidh does not care what people think of him. He is the Laird of Donnachaidh his main purpose to find a wife to bear him sons. He kind of likes the fact that people are scarred of him because challenges and war stops before they even start because of his reputation.
Evelinde is married and they start for the Laird's castle immediately. When she settles at the castle she decides to find out who killed the Laird's father, uncle and late-wife. This action of hers starts a firestorm of events. She bewitches the Liard and he of course fights it. I have never been able to get into Lynsay Sands Vampire series and was relucant to read this book, but I am glad I did!

This book was excellent! 1273 Northern England, but mostly Scotland.
The story-line flowed well and the descriptions clear and vibrant. The characters were interesting and likable. The hero was so great. He was strong and compasionate with a somewhat typical male characteristic of not liking to "talk". The heroine was not weak, but not overly obnoxious in her attempt to fit in to her new world. Their relationship develops and becomes strong as the mystery of murders unravels.
Definately a recommended read.
Enjoy

light read, the beginning was interesting but then the story turned very predictable, Evelinde seemed to be naked the first half of the book, & with the amount of bruising & falling (she fell in the river, from the horse, from a tree, from the stairs....)that she get it's a wonder she was alive by the end of the book!!!I got bored half way through and rush through it to finish it.

Sadly, I thought this book was lousy, and unbelievable. Really, who falls off a horse and has their nipple land RIGHT in a strange man's mouth?! Not great writing or characters, I'm truly surprised it's a bestseller...

This has a really great beginning, and the middle throws a few twists that won't be worked out until the very end! I read it in one shot, unable to put it down. It is very typical Lynsay Sands, and if you are new to Lynsay Sands, she never disappoints.

I was very impressed with this book as it was my first reading of a Lynsay Sands that was not a part of the Argeneau vampires! A very good read with the typical Lynsay Sands sense of humor....

I really liked this one but what can I say, I'm a sucker for a virile highlander. Wish I had one of my own.

I know everyone has a favorite author and genre of romance novel. I purchsed this on a whim because I loved the vampire series that Lynsay Sands has written. But, even though I love romance, I am not into the regular normal romance I started out with like this one as a teenager.
But, that said, if you like the rogue Scottish Highlander, you will like this light story. It is an easy read, but nothing truly distinguishes it from any other romance noval about a Scottish Highlander. It has okay sex and a good story line.
