Book Description:
What if all you have are the memories of a pirate... and the scandalous red dress that nearly brought you to ruin? Remembrances of the kisses he stole? Or his seductive, rakish smile as he charmed his way into your bed, stole your innocence and your heart? To proper and respectable Philippa, Lady Gossett such memories are best locked away. At least so she thought until a stranger arrives on her doorstep and offers her a chance to tempt fate once again... to tempt Dash back into her life and quite possibly into her bed...

But the man Pippin loved all those years ago, and the man she discovers are hardly the same. Captain Thomas Dashwell has a score to settle with the now widowed Lady Gossett, the vision in red who has haunted his life for so long -- ever since that fateful night when she betrayed him and married another. She's the one woman he's vowed to hate until the end of his days... and the one woman he can never forget...

This book was a real struggle to finish! In the first place, the story line jumps back and forth from 1814 to 1837 every couple of pages. And the characters are in their 40's now! (although they still look like they're in their 20's on the inside cover art). I just don't like a book where SO MUCH time has passed since the beginning of the realtionship...too much water under the bridge. And Pippin is now described as "matronly" and Dash as a "drunkard". How romantic (not!)

This was quite an interesting read. I actually love Elizabeth Boyle and have been anxiously awaiting "Pippen's" story after reading all her previous books.
The book was written very well. I actually liked the flashbacks between the different periods. I found that it also filled in the gaps her previous books left open. (although it can stand alone, I think it would be better to read them in order because so much of the content relates back to scenes from earlier stories)
Having said that, I don't think I liked the hero's character any more. He "fixes" himself (some what) at the end, but I enjoy heros with more hidden redeemingable qualities to start with. I feel like Pippin's mom in that she could've done better than him.:) - Especially having to have waited so long in her life to have her happily ever after.
But.... If you have read the previous books, definately read this.
And.... If you enjoy reading books with older heroines or / and almost unredeemable heros, this would be a good book for you too.

After reading about Pippin's two cousins, Felicity and Thalia, it was a treat to finally read Pippin's and Dash's story. It is 20 years later and they meet again. It is a most enjoyable read.
