I read the entire series many times as a kid. I loved these books & so did my daughter. I recommend this series for all kids who need a break from the sci-fi/fantasy/cartoon books that are out there now.

The Ingalls family had fared badly in Plum Creek, Minnesota. They were in debt. Mary was blind now. So Pa went West to work at a railroad camp in Dakota Territory where he could make as much as fifty dollars a month! Then he sent for his wife and four children, and they became the first settlers in the new town of DeSmet. But the railroad brought hordes of land-hungry people from the West. Had Pa waited too long to file his homestead claim?

Laura and her family are moving weat again-this time to Dakota Territory. Pa has just heard about a good job with the railroad, and the Ingalls family will be amoung the first settlers in the new town. Laura really likes their frontier home. . . until the night she and Carrie take a walk-and come face to face with a huge prairie wolf!
