Very hard to sum up this book except that it is an excellent read. Not only was it a bit of a tearjerker but also an eye-opener - I had no idea how terrible living in communist Cuba really was for certain minority groups. For those of you who have seen the movie, the movie in no way does justice to this very well written book.

Autobiography of a Cuban writer, who was imprisoned in Cuba in the 1980s, left Cuba during the Mariel boatlift, and committed suicide after he was disabled with AIDS in 1990. There's a movie of the same title (Johnny Depp is in it, but doesn't play Reinaldo). Translated by Delores Koch.
