Book Description:
Why is the land so important to Cassie's family? It takes the events of one turbulent year--the year of the night riders and the burnings, the year a white girl humiliates Cassie in public simply because she is black--to show Cassie that having a place of their own is the Logan family's lifeblood. It is the land that gives the Logans their courage and pride, for no matter how others may degrade them, the Logans possess something no one can take away.

I remember reading this book when I was a little girl I loved it. Very heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. It gives you insight of what it was like living in the times of segregation being Black. There are 2 more books in this family. I would recommend it for young readers.

I read this book for a class I was taking on Children's Literature. It's an excellent book, well worth reading many times over. It's a story about love, family, hope and the capacity for human beings to retain their sense of pride despite all the ills of the world.
