This is a great book for younger (and older) science fiction fans. I read this for a children's fiction class and was truly caught up in the plot. This is the kind of book I was looking for when I was younger.

I was in about 6th grade when this book was published, and it was SUCH a big deal. All my also-nerdy friends were reading it. It was riveting.

I've reread it as an adult, and I still love it. Great look at a culture completely different from my own, a complex but cohesive story, and fun characters.

I really enjoyed the African culture that was mixed in with the book. Even though very much in the future, the book showed that culture remains. I liked how she describes her characters, too.
