Book Description:
For the legions of readers who enjoy books that celebrate life’s simple pleasures, eighty-seven-year-old Dorothy Jean Wetstra and her beloved farming town of Partonville, Illinois, will become instant favorites. In this hilarious, touching series, Charlene Ann Baumbich introduces readers to Dearest Dorothy, who tools around town in a 1976 Lincoln Continental nicknamed "The Tank," plays bunco regularly with her pals, and grabs a stool at Harry’s counter often enough to stay on top of the latest-breaking news—which she is often creating. In the series debut, Dearest Dorothy, Are We There Yet?, Dorothy faces a decision that may change her town forever, and her gift for shaking things up comes in handy. In the second book, Dearest Dorothy, Slow Down, You're Wearing Us Out!, the town’s irresistible cast of characters is back in full swing as they confront some of the many surprises life sends their way. So pull up a chair and get ready for fireworks, laughter, and we’ll-get-through-it-all-with-faith friendships.

This is the first book in a laugh out loud series about a fiesty octogenarian and the eccentric members in her community in a small town in southern Illinois. If you are from a small town you will enjoy the somewhat exaggerated portrayals of the locals and their interactions with each other, and as always there is a little bit of truth in each parody.

Fun book in the style of Jan Karon, Philip Gulley and Lisa Samson. Thoroughly enjoyable!

I thought this might be a little too "sweet" and simplistic, but I found myself thoroughly entertained. I enjoyed the characters very much. In fact, I wasted no time in requesting, receiving the second book in the series and now am ready to go on to the third. It's a light read, very homey and comforting. Delightful!

This book is a delightful story. It is a light read that also brings attention to the idea of change and progress. Definitely a book I would suggest to friends.

Good light read....I would not compare it to Mitford/Karon though, I personally thought it didn't "hold a candle" to Karon. A bit too innocent?
