The book was well written and a compelling read but Fleur, the main character, was definitely not a nice person! In the Shopoholic series, Becky may be silly & somewhat superficial but she does have a good heart. Fleur unfortunately is so self absorbed that she doesn't seem to really care for anyone, even her own daughter. Her upbringing may explain some of her behaviour &, at least at the end, she seemed to be trying to turn her life around but she wasn't someone for whom I rooted throughout the book.

i decided to read this book because i was bored, and it kept me bored. a complete waste of time. the main character fleur has many problems and was extremly selfish. books that i keep i will definatly reread, this one i will list on PBS asap.

This was the first book by the author, pretty good book, funny in parts, BUT the ending left me wondering about to many things. I can not see this book as a sequeal. If her other books are like this.....I will pass.

This book was pretty good, but not at all as good as the books she writes as Sophie Kinsella. It didn't move along as quickly and I didn't feel it was as interesting.

This book was good but different from most chick lit I have read. The main character, Fleur is extremely selfish and out for all she can get. The other characters are well developed.

(so i think its pretty well known that i love chick lit and especially love the shopoholic series. this is the first book ive read by sophie kinsella under her pen name of madeleine wickham. it was chick lit but had a different story, which i liked. the main character, fleur, is a woman in her later years (40s?). she lives her life going from one funeral to the next, shacking up with rich widowers and taking as much as money as she can get from them. (its actually a great idea, lol) fleur ends up actually really liking her latest conquest, and the story twists and turns from there. it was a work of art, the greatest book, or whatever- but i wasnt bored, and i really enjoyed the characters.
