Book Description:
New Orleans is known for sinful pleasures and strange magic, but for cryptozoologist Diana Malone it offers one irresistible attraction. For over a hundred years there have been whispers of wolves around the Crescent City, and the recent discovery of bodies in the nearby swamps hints at a creature even more dangerous...one that could make Diana's career and fortune, if she lives to capture it.

Adam Ruelle is a reclusive former Special Forces officer, the last of a mysterious Cajun family rumored to be cursed, and the only person skilled enough to guide Diana in her search. Rugged and captivating, he fills her nights with desire...but by day, Diana is plagued with doubts. Adam clearly knows more than he's telling, but is his aim to protect her or distract her? Something is stalking its prey in the Louisiana bayous, and every step towards the horrifying truth brings Diana closer to a centuries-old enemy that lives for the smell of fear and the thrill of killing, again and again...

I happen to read her latest two books before I started reading them in order. This left me very confused and I felt deja vu' coming on...since I read the follow up to this book firstly. Regardless, Handeland has a way of hooking you in, and I really do like her writing!! Her female characters are very strong, and there is much humor in their point of views (they are all first person.) I find them more believable, and that the stories could actually be reality. They are not so far fetched that you keep telling yourself "no way." She seems to put a lot of research into her settings and legends, which also aided in finding the stories believable.
I am glad I started reading them in order, and will most likely re-read the other two, since they were actually that good, and the characters all fit together. I would definitely recommend this series for anyone who likes paranormal, even if you don't like romance.

One of the Jager-Suchers books, this story does not concentrate on the J-S's, rather it introduces Diana...held by a vow to her dead husband to prove the existence of werewolves, and Adam...a reclusive member of a family said to be cursed who roams the Louisiana swamps by night. Is he the one killing? Or does he just know who is?

Definitely different. I actually live near Honey Island Swamp, which is why I got this book. (By the way the "Honey Island Swamp Monster" was really a very large nutria rat) Good read if you like that kinda thing.

Great little book - but definitely read these in order, as the story and some characters overlap each other.

Entertaining book - one of the few these days I actually read from beginning to end without skipping 1/3 or more the book.

Great read! I read the series out of order, but the book is still good to stand alone!
