I can't help but feel that this series has jumped the shark. It is like she changes the rules that were set up in the first books with no rhyme or reason. I have found the last two to be kind of boring.

Great series, great stand alone book.

Handeland's books get better and better! This one follows her formula, but there are definitely twists that you will not see coming.

Lori Handeland's Nightcreature series is incredible. The Voodoo, Gypsy and Native American Lore are fascinating. The stories are action packed and the characters are endearing.

Private investigater Anne Lockheart goes to New Orleans to find her missing sister. Katie has been missing for three years when a mysterious envelope appears in the mail showing a picture of Katie in front of Rising Moon, a jazz club in New Orleans. Club owner, John Rodolfo, is a blind musician headlining when Anne arrives. She is spellbound by him and his music and allows herself to be distracted by John. She joins forces with Conner Sullivan, NOPD detective working on a lot of murders in town and fearing for Katie though he hasn't met her.

This book has elements of werewolves, loup garou (and no they are not the same thing), voodoo, hunters and of course, murder. Very well written and fast paced. It grabs you from page one and doesn't let go until the end. You will feel a gamut of emotions throughout, some tender, some fierce. Lori Handeland sure can write 'em. Enjoy!

This is the second book of Handeland's that I have read. I really like her writing, in that you never know WHO the "monster" is or even WHAT it is till you are a good ways through the book. She has made me laugh more than a couple of times too with some of her character point of views. The author must also do quite a bit of research before writing her books; I was impressed with the amount of knowledge on the multicultural legends in the books. I never knew there were so many.
I really liked both of the books, right up until the end. I have to say I was left hanging...I didn't like the endings at all. Not only were they very hard to believe, but I was left with way too many questions unanswered. This was hard for me to grasp, since the rest of the book flowed so well. In reading the excerpts of her other books, all the characters/books seem to be related in one way or another. I will try to read some more in hopes that the endings are better, or something makes sense. Other than that, the other four fifths of the book was great.

Interesting, unusual take on werewolves -- did you know there are several kinds? Set in post-Katrina New Orleans. I was about halfway through the book before it really caught me up.
