This seems like a very pale imitation of some of Leigh's "Breeds" series books, particularly "Megan's Mark" and "Dawn's Awakening." (A much, much better book.) I got very tired of the heroine's constant dwelling on her supposed ugliness and I didn't really see the love between the charcters, just the hot sex.
Also, after the big build up in the introduction about how Leigh had researched her Jewish hero, there was virtually nothing about that in the story other than his not eating bacon--notably not even one thought on his part about the fact that if he has children with a woman who isn't Jewish, they won't be Jewish. Not that I would expect that to impede True Love, but he should at least have thought about it.
Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she's harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin--and banish the ghosts of his own dark past--is to use Risa as bait. But nothing has prepared him for her disarming blend of innocence and sensuality, or for his overwhelming need to protect her...
Risa has spent 8 years rebuilding her life. And now, to save it, she must pose as Micah's lover and draw a killer into the open. It's a risky plan--especially w/ a man as powerfully seductive as Micah. But, as their charade becomes reality, Risa realizes the greatest danger may lie in losing her heart forever...
while I have enjoyed a number of Lora Leigh's books, I thought this was exceptional. The characters are great as is the story.
This is a very dark romance. There is a scene in the middle that made me cry, and that never happens.
In another scene, she asks when her world will be sane again...and another character answers that the world is not sane, but that some people have pretty illusions. This is an underlying theme in this storyline that starts in the Tempting Seals series and has branched off into the Elite Ops series.
i usually love lora leigh. but this one didn't hold my interest.

Book 2 of the Elite Ops series is a real page turner with strong characters and suspenseful plotting. The story line is a continuation of the story arc started in the Tempting Seals series. Be sure to leave yourself sufficient time to finish...

2. Dangerous Games (2007)
3. For Maggies Sake (2007) (in Real Men Do It Better)

I LOVED Maverick! I think the hero Micah is great and Risa (heroine) has weak moments but for what she went through it is expected.. I think she proved that she is strong and determined to overcome all... All in all it was a great read and the characters were good. I give it an A.
