Book Description:
Four centuries ago, a precious idol was hidden in the jungles of Peru. To the Incan people, it is still the ultimate symbol of their spirit. To William race, an American linguist enlisted by the U.S. Army to decipher the clues to its location, it's the ultimate symbol of the apocalypse...

Carved from a rare stone not found on Earth, the idol possesses elements more destructive than any nuclear bomb--a virtual planet killer. In the wrong hands it could mean the end of mankind. And whoever possesses the idol, possesses the unfathomable--and cataclysmic--power of the gods...

Now, in the foothills of the Andes, Race's team has arrived--but they're not alone. And soon they'll discover that to penetrate the temple of the idol is to break the first rule of survival.
Because some treasures are meant to stay buried..and forces are ready to kill to keep it that way...

Like other Reilly books I've read: a fun, fast-paced Indiana Jones type book. Not at all credible, but a fun read.

This was a good "Indiana Jones" adventure type book. Don't give up on it around page 100. It worth it to go on. The ending was great!

This books initial premise had promise and while the reading was fun, it slowly became more and more comic-bookish right up to the end. If you have ever watched alias then you can understand how in this book every little thing will just happen to go right for the unlikely hero. Don't get me wrong, I read the entire book. I even enjoyed it at times, but it was not a great piece of literature.

The cover says "Michael Crichton meets Indiana Jones". And I think this is an acurate description. This is a race between several teams to retrieve an idol before it ends up in the wrong hands. The book takes place in about one week and you will be amazed at how many things can happen! I can never wait for the newest Matthew Reilly book.
