Book Description:
Burdened by his own psychological scars, brilliant forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Frank Clevenger, has weathered the most extreme twists of the human mind. Then he receives a disturbing call from Nantucket's Chief of Police. The five-month-old daughter of prominent billionaire, Darwin Bishop, has been found murdered in her crib.

The obvious suspect is Darwin's adopted sociopathic son, Billy. Even Clevenger can't fathom the motive behind the troubled boy's murder of an infant. But what is Billy really running from? Does Darwin's stunning wife Julia know? If she does, she isn't talking. Neither is the Bishop's other son who's harboring terrible secrets of his own.

Falling for Julia is Clevenger's first mistake. Investigating the Bishops' twisted emotional landscape is his second. It's done more than just draw him into the maze of a psychosexual family history. It's trapped him. As his own demons rise to the surface, he must play the ultimate mind game to catch a killer -- and make it out alive...

I enjoyed this entry in the Frank Clevenger series immensely! I especially appreciated the quick pacing and smart plot. Dr. Ablow does a fine job of keeping you guessing, creating compelling characters, examining their motives without dragging it out, He throws in some really interesting and ingenious diagnostic scenerios. It is the proverbial page-turner, and I did indeed stay up late into the night to finish it. Highly recommended.

This book is time well spent, and like myself, you'll likely learn a few things along the way. What could be better?

An excellent psychological thriller. Kept me guessing, although close to the end I figured it out. I'm enjoying the Frank Clevenger character as much as ever.

A psychological thriller where you know the main suspect is innocent and can't wait for the real murderer to be found out. The story of a truly dysfunctional family.

Keith Ablow is a new author for me and although his 1st book in the Frank Cleaver series is very dark and heavy, each book in the series gets better and better. This is the 3rd in the series.

Keith Ablow does it again. For those of you who've only read his later books, this is a must-read; it's the story of how Billy comes into Dr. Clevenger's life.

Linda C. (Seagull) wrote on 10/16/2005...

"Keith Ablow's setting is the darkest of all-the twists and turns of the human mind. COMPULSION is-pardon the obvious pun-compulsive reading. Great psychological suspense."--Harlan Coben, author of GONE FOR GOOD

"Frank Clevenger is a real original: a jeans-clad, black-turtleneck-wearing, head-shaven loner whose compassion for victims of violent crimes-and the perpetrators of those crimes-threatens to destroy him. Whether Clevenger is entirely fictional, or a reflection of his creator's dark side (Ablow is a practicing forensic psychiatrist) the upshot is the same: He's a brillant creation and this is a brillant nove."--Booklist (starred)
