Book Description:
By the light of a blue moon, danger prowls... Miniwa, Wisconsin, is under siege, but not by the usual summer tourists. The area's normally shy wolf population has begun stalking human prey, and their victims have been disappearing...or worse. Something is happening in the woods. Something no one can explain.... Officer Jessie McQuade has seen plenty in her years on the force, but nothing as intriguing as the gorgeous, naked man she encounters while tracking a rogue wolf. Professor Will Cadotte is a Native American activist. He's also the only man capable of distracting Jessie from her work. And for a cop, distraction, no matter how pleasurable, can be deadly. It's against Jessie's better judgment to accept Will's help in her investigation, yet she soon finds herself doing exactly that, and more. Will's dark, penetrating eyes see into a part of Jessie's soul she never knew existed, It's exhilarating...and terrifying. Now, as a town's deepest secrets come to light, no one is safe: not friends, lovers, or strangers. And as Jessie follows a trail to the shocking truth, she'll have to decide who she can trust when the moon is full....

This is the first in a series of paranormal romances. The main character is a small-town female police officer named Jessie McQuade. A woman is badly injured when she hits a wolf with her SUV, and McQuade is sent to investigate. She follows the trail of a wolf and finds a gorgeous naked man. Are things about to get hairy?*

I am picky about romance novels, but this one satisfied my criteria. There are a lot of things I liked about it.
1) The heroine is smart. She has common sense and she calls for backup when appropriate.
2) Her love interest is a caring, mature person. Specifically, he appreciates the heroine for more than just her body. Also, although there is some sexy R-rated wrestling, he never pushes past what she's willing to give him.
3) I didn't care that I could see where the plot was going. Most romances are a bit predictable. That's okay, as long as they're good enough that you don't mind, and in this case I didn't. I knew who Jessie was going to end up with, but I really wanted to know how it would happen and what they would say to each other and how they would (inevitably) foil the bad guys.
4) Who the bad guys are and what their deal is remains a mystery up until the end.

I enjoyed this book and I will be looking up more of Ms. Handeland's work. Recommended for all fans of love stories with bite!* Four stars.

*Sorry, guys. I tried hard but I couldn't resist.

Other than the Anne Rice Vampire chronicles I have never really gotten into supernatural fiction, and I don't think I've ever read a romance novel. So I didn't have high expectations for this book, but I was very surprised at how much I liked the book.

Mrs. Handeland really has something with this book. I was instantly captivated by the action that takes place at the beginning of the book. The main character, Jessie, was very relatable. I could see myself in her shoes and her thoughts and dialogue was something I could hear coming out of my mouth.

As the story progresses you begin to share the doubt that Jessie has and as new bits of the story come together I found myself trying to figure out who was the Wolf God.

Overall I think this was very well written and I will defiantly be getting the next book in the series. The only reason that I didn't give it a 5-star rating is that I don't see this book as being something that I would re-read. But I did like it and found myself for a few nights reading until I couldn't keep my eyes open, simply because I didn't want to put this one down.

Not a bad book. I'll read the next one. The story had a hole or two but nothing I couldn't live with.

I loved the book! It was the first of the serious that I read. Half way through I was hooked and couldn't wait for the next book.

This book was amazing. Lori Handeland really knows how to pull the reader in with her descriptions and suspense. I couldn't put the book down. :)

I got half way throught the book and fell asleep inbetween the short chapters. The book was trying to keep my attention but I did not even laugh at some of the main character's quick smart replies or comments. I guess I did not like the "I" dialogue, the first person writing. I do not reccomend this book and it really was bad that I did wanted to know how the book ended.
