Book Description:
Just when Alex thought his life was calming down into a routine of patients and therapy sessions, he finds himself back in the game--this time to catch a criminal mastermind like no other. A spate of elaborate murders in Washington D.C. have the whole East Coast on edge. They are like nothing Alex Cross and his new girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, have ever seen. With each murder, the case becomes increasingly complex. There's only one thing Alex knows: the killer adores an audience. As victims are made into gruesome spectacles citywide, inducing a media hysteria, it becomes clear to Alex that the man he's after is a genius of terror--and he's after fame. The killer has the whole city by its strings--and he'll stop at nothing to become the most terrifying star that Washington D.C. has ever seen.

EXCELLENT!!! I read this book in about 4 hours. I could not put it down. It is nonstop suspense and of course murder. I can't wait for the next Alex Cross book.

"Double Cross" is vintage Patterson. Definitely a thriller with a lot of twists and turns like most of his Alex Cross books. It also advances a plot line that Patterson has been reeling out over his last several Cross novels, which has the potential to sustain the Cross for as long as he is willing to write them. You cannot read "Double Cross" without feeling as if there are even bigger things yet to come from Cross and his creator.

Not as impressive as the first Alex Cross books like KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER, but definitely better than CROSS, the last book.

Most of the characters are back to normal, acting more like themselves, and this book has a better mystery. In fact, it's a two-fold arc, with the devious and psychopathic Kyle Craig causing havoc from prison, and a new serial killer keeping Detective Brianna Stone, Cross's new love interest, busy with murders committed in the limelight.

It's a quick, okay read, but definitely not my favorite.

Excellent continuation on Alex Cross. Just when you think you got'em - WRONG! One detail a little farfetched (mask), but I guess anything is possible. Little hints about certain characters make you fear for them, but then he leads you right back to the situation at hand. Had to read it fast as daughter wanted to read it next! Looking forward to the next one!

Well, this book was fast moving with lots of twists like the rest of the series but the ending left me hanging as intended and waiting for Triple Cross?? c'mon James, couldnt you just end it and start with a new character???

I started reading this book on Friday, December 28 late in the afternoon. Here it is Sunday evening...errr early Monday morning and I am nearly halfway done with this book. Keep in mind I have three kids and a husband so my time to read is limited to fifteen minutes here and there as well as the occasional bubble bath. My husband was nice enough to buy me a book light for Christmas and it has come in handy when I get in bed. Though it's probably a bad thing when you say one more chapter and ten chapters later you are still reading!

It is by far one of the best James Patterson books I have read. You think you know what is coming and then bam you were way off base. Completely and totally worth the read.

***EDIT*** Just finished this book and all I can say is WOW!****

Another good Alex Cross book. This book is not as good as the earlier Cross books, but it is much better than some of his recent co authored books. There are the usual murders, and twists and turns with lots of non stop action that you would expect from Patterson, as well as some surprises. A good book for a weekend read.

I guess my big advantage with this book is that I have listened to all the audio books and never really picked up a book from the Alex Cross series. So while reading I always had the narrators gorgeous, character giving voice in my head while reading. I always thought it is this voice that gave Alex Cross the live in the audio books and and now that I read my first Hardback in this series I know I've always been right.
For me personally James Patterson's writing style isn't the best one, dull and repetitive at times. The characters aren't growing at all so I'll most certainly will stick to listening to the audio books instead of buying a real book.

However, the story itself is quite nice at the last third which I finished in one day while the first two thirds bored me big time.

For me it was an experiment that failed. :-)

EXCELLENT, James has done it again. I could not put it down. Now I am going backwards and reading all of the Cross series. If you pick it up enjoy it was well worth the money spent.

I felt that parts of this one were a little slow, maybe because Cross's drama with his women is just getting old. I'd have to say one of Cross's most annoying traits is that the man is so co-dependent. I don't think I can recall him going two books without finding someone who he falls in love with. It's also kind of ironic that he's a psychologist and doesn't happen to mention it about himself but his adversaries sure seem to notice. Another thing is, is that he's an awful shrink if he can't profile his patients very well. That the killer and his co-conspirator are BOTH ballsy enough to be his patients and Cross not catching their odd comments and behavior is enough to make the reader groan out loud. (Yes, I know for some, it would be suspense, but did Cross forget killers like Soneji playing dress-up?) You'd think he'd be a little more jaded after dealing with all the bad guys and not take everything at face value.

On an "I wonder?" note, I had to ponder if the female author killed early on was a teensy representation of Patricia Cornwell (being a blond, mystery writer and all with lots of books under her belt, she kind of fit the description). I found some humor in it (twisted of me, I know) because Cornwell's books drove me crazy with their idiots-are-easily-amused plots.

It was nice to see Nana wasn't so irritating in this one and kept her complaining of Alex's job to a minimum. Nothing like having members of the family being non-supportive of you job to add to your stress levels.

Overall, it was the typical fast read because there is a lot going on, the chapters are short, and the print not tiny. Definitely good enough for a PaperBackSwap credit!

Chapters 30-34 were the best for me! It was a great read! I'm so excited to be completed with ALL the Patterson Series at this very moment until more come out. I enjoyed the book and I would recommend reading it to keep up in the Cross Series!
