Detective Harry Bosch, now in the Open-unsolved Unit, receives a call from the DA telling him a serial killer has confessed to several murders. Harry must interview the man about a case he couldn't crack involving the murder of a 22-year-old woman whose body was never found.
This Harry Bosch novel by thriller powerhouse Michael Connelly focuses on a missing persons case, originally assigned to Bosch in 1993, that has gone unsolved for 13 years. Marie Gesto's disappearance frustrated Bosch enough that even when he went off the force and into retirement, he kept the case file with him. Now, years later, Bosch is back on the force, and a convicted murderer has confessed to killing Marie, along with several others. But something seems fishy about this guy's confession, and Harry will to stop at nothing to ferret out the truth.

I had never read anything by Michael Connelly until now, but after reading this book of his hero detective, Harry Bosch, I am ready to go back and look for others of this character. A fast pace murder mystery that has you guessing not only of who the murderer might be, but also who in the professionla ranks might be involved. A great story, and one I couldn't put down. One of the fastest reads I ever did.

I happened to come along to Michael Connelly after picking this book up at the airport in preperation for a long flight. I made a great choice. This is a great mystery that keeps you in suspense from beginning to end. I live in the Los Angeles area and I enjoyed being able to follow the characters all around Los Angeles, having a perfect picture in my mind's eye exactly where each event was taking place. If you are a fan of Patricia Cornwell's earlier novels, chances are you will enjoy Michael Connelley.

"Echo Park" is an exciting, unpredictable story full of themes such as guilt, all-consuming passion for justice, betrayal and friendship. One of the better police novels I've read in a long time.

I can't get enough of Harry Bousch. if you are a combat veteran you'll love this guy!! "Everybody counts or no one counts" is his philosophy and he's not afraid to do what he believes is right.

I agree that this is not Connelly's best work. Characters could use some more development and draw more empathy from the reader. Plot development is exemplary as always and keeps the reader engaged.

Harry Bosch is working the Cold Case Squad at LAPD, paired with his newest partner Kiz Rider. Haunted by a case from 20 years earlier, Harry is doing some side investigation when new evidence turns up in the case. This evidence seems to indicate that Harry and his former partner overlooked some crucial evidence that allowed the killer to go free and commit many more murders. This possibility leaves Harry close to a break down, and a questioning of his abilities as a police officer.
As usual Connelly gives us a wonderfully textured story of a man in crisis, and trying to maintain his equilibrium in a world gone topsy turvy. Full of surprises, yet not over the top, the novel delivers on many levels, and makes us like our flawed hero even more.

A sadder yet wiser Harry Bosch has finally settled down and has learned the bureaucratic lesson that in order to get along, you must go along......NOT!!!!!
