Book Description:
Hip radio comedy fans and theater folks who belong to the cult of Obie-winning playwright/performer David Sedaris must kill to get this book. These would be fans of the scaldingly snide Sedaris's hilariously described personal misadventures like The Santaland Diaries (a monologue about his work as an elf to a department store Santa) seen off-Broadway in 1997. In a series of similarly textured essays, Sedaris takes us along on his catastrophic detours through a nudist colony, a fruit-packing plant, his own childhood, and a dozen more of the world's little purgatories.

This is quite possibly the funniest book I have ever read. If you are feeling down and you think nothing can perk you up, try reading Naked, and I promise, you'll be laughing within minutes.

Sedaris is hilarious, but you probably already knew that. His life and family make for a great read.

I liked it; it's hard to believe that someone with as much lack of direction, and who has had so many near misses with disaster has manged to create as much of a career as Sedaris has.

I thought his bio would be funnier -- that's what the back cover copy would have you believe -- but while there are certainly many funny moments, there's a lot of nail biting, too. It doesn't make the book bad, but it didn't hit my expectations, either. So I'm left with an odd feeling about it.

This review sounds lukewarm --- but the book is actually quite good. It's just not crazy funny like I thought it would be.

I got so many crazy looks when I would read this book at work on my lunch break. I laughed out loud and everyone thought I was crazy!

This book is ridiculously funny. Smart and funny is a combination I love in a book.

Very funny and well written memoir. One of those books that pulled me right in to the story.

David Sedaris's stories about his family and growing up. His visit to the nudist camp is hilarious.

Hillarious!! I loved reading this book. It's also quite a conversation piece just sitting around your house. I read numerous parts aloud to groups.

Laugh-out loud funny in places, tear-welling in others. David's recollections of his strange family and challenging childhood evokes sympathy and laughter. Pulls no punches; not recommended for those who might be easily offended as there is a lot here to offend. But his honesty cuts to the core and is a breath of fresh air.

Hilarious, sometimes jarringly so. You'll laugh out loud.

This book had me laughing hysterically, although if you can get this on tape/CD and listen to Sedaris' whiney voice reading it, well that's even better!
This is Sedaris' autobiography of being a misfit in a misfit family that moved from the New York to Raleigh, NC. Talk about culture shock! There are also touching moments in this book, and Sedaris pulls those off with tenderness and bittersweet humor. A great "break in" read from David Sedaris.

I think he's brilliant, esp. in live audio, but I couldn't really get into this book.
