Who would garrote a middle-aged housewife and leave her body in the parking garage of a suburban shopping mall? Chief Inspector Wexford is no sooner on the case than a car bomb's explosion lands him in the hospital. It's now up to Mike Burden to step in and solve the case. He's got a suspect . . . but will he be able to make him talk?

Rather more violent than the usual Wexford outing. A housewife is strangled with a garrot, of all the horrible things. And a car bomb explosion puts series hero Reg Wexford into hospital. His inflexible but likeable partner Mike Burden steps up to the plate. He takes aim at a suspect but can not get him to talk.

It's a long while since I read this, but it's an Insp. Wexford mystery by a master writer. I enjoyed every one of them that I read.
