Great series taking place in Alpine, WA, a fictitious city and the protagonist is a single mom who buys the local paper and becomes the editor. There are a number of quirky characters and lots of murder going on. This is the first book in the series and I recommend it to someone who enjoys cozies. Personally I like this series better than her bed and breakfast series.
First in a delightful series in which a new female newspaper owner in a small town in the state of Washington struggles to fit in.
The characters are delightfully nutty & there's always something going on.....mostly leading to a discovery of a murder by the owner of the newspaper, which doesn't please the local sheriff. This delightful series continues with most of the leading characters
in the successive books. You'll learn to love the characters & won't want to miss their growth over the series.Great reading!!

A new series to me. Adventure in the Northwest--female newspaper owner(Emma Lord) turns detective. A fun read. First of the series.
This is the first in a series, with each title including the next letter of the alphabet (The Alpine Advocate, The Alpine Betrayal, etc).
I found the main character interesting as I have and am currently writing for an online paper. I also have an appreciation for small towns (though I don't live in one).
Good story, had me thinking all along and only revealed the truth in the end.

Enjoyable cozy with a lot of quirky characters. I would have liked a little more discription of the setting, Pacific Northwest.

Beginning of the Alpine series by Ms. Daheim. Good read.
Great characters. Mary Daheim's great series. Very thorough writing.
Of all the Alpine mysteries I have read, this is the best!! I wanted to read every line, and I could not stop reading until I had finished it (except to eat and sleep)!!!

First book in the Mary Daheim Alpine series. With a full year as editor-publisher of The Alpine Advocate under her belt, Emma Lord feels fine about her move to this small town in the foothills of Washington's Cascade Mountains. But what the newspaper badly needs is a story, Emma gets one in Spades.
Handsome Mark Doukas, a grandson of rich, old Neeny Doukas, is murdered, and the murderer is probablyNeeny's only other grandson, black sheep CHris. Even in a family that has never lacked for scandal, that's news; and Emma and her assistant, Vida, who is a walking encyclopedia of local secrets, makes the most of it...
Great series. Mary Daheim is a fantastic mystery writer - and her sense of humor is superb.
