Book Description:
The Talamasca, documenters of paranormal activity, is on the hunt for the newly born Lasher. Mayfair women are dying from hemorrhages and a strange genetic anomaly has been found in Rowan and Michael. Lasher, born from Rowan, is another species altogether and now in the corporeal body, represents an incalcuable threat to the Mayfairs. Rowan and Lasher travel together to Houston and she becomes pregnant with another creature like him, a Taltos. Lasher seeks to reproduce his race in other women, but they cannot withstand it. Rowan escapes and becomes comatose as her fully-grown Taltos daughter is born. The Mayfairs declare all-out war on Lasher and try to nurse Rowan back to heatlth.

Michael remains entwined in the Mayfair family and learns how he comes by his strange powers. Michael's ghostly visiting from a long-dead Mayfair reveals the importance of destroying Lasher. In the investigation, Lasher's origins are revealed, the new Taltos Emaleth returns, and the climax of death and life engulfs the family.

This book was "OKAY". I'm invested now after reading the first book in the series, The Witching Hour but I have to say that it dragged and I was glad when it ended AND I am going to put off starting the 3rd in the series to give myself a break.

The story is different and offers some interesting characters that you do care about. However, the book drags with seemingly inane details leaving me wanting more on the character plotlines. I am no prude but I also find this book (and the series) a bit inappropriately graphic (ie disjointed sexual scenes that really don't add anything to the story).

I enjoyed the luchiousness of the first book of this series, but this second one had many pages of bla bla blas that just needed to be turned to get on with the story. If you're interested in a tale about witches, that doesn't dwell too much about their abilities, let alone use them but upon their genetics, this is the 3 story book tale for you.

I enjoyed this one, but not quite as much as The Witching Hour.

One of Rice's great novels--filled with mystery, all kinds of sex (not for faint of heart) and demons--a great read!

Second in this series, the story continues. Time well spent on lush reading.

At the center of this dark and compelling tale is Rowan Mayfair, queen of the coven, who must flee from the darkly brutal, yet irresistable demon known as Lasher. With a dreamlike power, this wickedly seductive entity draws us through twilight paths, telling a chilling and hypnotic story of spiritual aspiration and passion.

Suspenseful completion (?) to the Mayfair witchs' history. Lasher's background made credible under Anne Rice's excellent writing. Less eroticism in this book than the first. More surprises and violence also. Lasher, as villain seems formidable, unstoppable, so it's interesting to see how the author handles the ending. At the very end, I was dissappointed since it left everything up in the air but their must be a sequel. I did find Rowan's healing unbelievable but I can't say more without giving away the plot of the book. Overall, a good read but not as good as the first. Worth reading though with its suspense, mystery and characters not usually known to us.
