Book Description:
In the fifth Vampire Chronicle, Lestat is searching for Dora, the beautiful and charismatic mortal daughter of a drug lord. Dora has moved Lestat like no other mortal ever has, and he cannot get her out of his visions. At the same time, he is increasingly aware that the Devil knows who he is and wants something from him. While torn betwen his vampire world and his passion for Dora, Lestat is sucked in by Memnoch, who claims to be the Devil himself. Memnoch presents Lestat with unimagined opportunities: to witness creation, to visit purgatory, to be treated like a prophet. Lestat faces a choice between the Devil or God. Whom does he believe in? Who does he serve? What are the element of religious belief? Lestat finds himself caught in a whirlpool of the ultimate choice.

Great book, really different from many of Rice's others in the series. I am not a fan of hers, but this one was beautiful. I felt that it changed my perspective of life and religion in many ways. It really is a philosophical piece.

Memnoch is one of Rice's most intriguing and sympathtic characters...Rice ups the ante taking a stretch where few writers have ventured; into Heaven and Hell itself. She does an excellent job.

I love this book! My favorite of the vampire chronicles. The ideas that Anne Rice puts out there in this book are thought provoking. Then the end....a little twist (in my opinion). I cared about Lestat in this book. I stayed up at night reading this book. LOVED IT!

This is a stunning piece, and it really makes your mind roam to places regarding religion you might be surprised with.

The story is good and Rice is so discriptive in her world. You can get lost in just how she talks about a flower.

"MY NAME IS MEMNOCH," he said calmly, with a small pleading gesture. "Memnoch The Devil. I want you to remember it that way....Lestat, I've been waiting for someone like you for centuries. I've been watching you yourself for centuries. No I'm afraid I'm not going to leave you alone. But I don't want you to be miserable. What can I do to calm you? Some small miracle, gift, anything, so that we can proceed." "And how in hell will we proceed?" "I'll tell you everything," he said with a slight shrug, his hand open, "and then you'll understand why I have to win...."

In this novel, the vampire Lestat--outsider, canny monster, hero-wanderer--is snatched from the world itself by the most dangerous adversary he has ever known: Memnoch, a mysterious being who claims to be the Devil. He is invited to be a witness at the Creation. He is taken like the ancient prophets into the heavenly realm and is ushered into Purgatory. Lestat must decide if he can believe in the Devil or in God. And finally, he must decide which, if either, he will serve.

I have yet to read anything by Anne Rice that I didn't like, and this is no exception.
