Stunning, shrewdly written and sharply plotted....

Elvis Cole's relationship is already strained with his girlfriend who has recently moved with her 10 year old son from Baton Rouge to L.A. in order to be nearer Elvis. It become worse when her son is staying with Elvis while she is out of town on business. Ben, mysteriously disappears just minutes before she returns.
The kidnapper makes a call to Elvis with threats to punish him for past deeds which Elvis knows nothing about.
Many twists and turns involve international gorillas and Ben's natural father before the mystery is solved.

Robert Crais is my favorite mystery writer and "The Last Detective" didn't disapoint.

A serious Elvis Cole novel full of kidnapping, Vietnam flashbacks, war crimes, family neglect and personal anguish.

What a page-turner! Great book, I just love detective books!

It was almost impossible to put this book down. The characters' personal stress and the search for the kidnapper and missing child kept me in suspense from the very beginning. Crais knows how to involve the reader.
