First, she imagined it. Then a killer made it real.
Rowan Smith is living in a borrowed Malibu beach house while her bestselling novel is made into a Hollywood movie. A former FBI agent with a haunted past, Rowan thinks she has outrun her demons. But fiction and reality collide when a dismembered body is found in Colorado: the real-life victim had the same name, occupation, and looks as a character in Rowans novel. By the time the FBI, the LAPD, and her own private bodyguard gather around her, another person is killedagain, the murder ripped from the pages of Rowans book.
In the company of a former Delta Force officer with secrets of his own, Rowan faces an excruciating dilemma: the only way to chase down the tormenting killer is by revisiting the darkness of her pastand by praying for some way out again.
After the prey is chosen, the hunt is on and the kill is certain.

This is the 1st book in a trilogy. The suspenseful storyline gets your attention from the very beginning and the romance is sizzling! The main characters in each of the books were all roommates at the FBI academy. Rowan(The Prey), Miranda(The Hunt)and Olivia(The Kill). In The Prey, Rowan, who is now a former FBI agent and currently authoring books, helps to find a killer that is "copycatting" her novels with real-life victims.

I am an instant fan. If you enjoy Kay Hooper and Mariah Stewart, you will love Allison Brennan. This is a stay up late, edge of your seat, can't put it down book. Fast paced and well written with characters that are fleshed out and believable. This is the 1st of the series, and is well worth every penny spent to buy it.

Terrific beginning to a new series/trilogy. Reminded me of some earlier Tami Hoag books. It was a bit gruesome, but definitely believable. Rowan, the protagonist, carries survivor's guilt like a second skin and John, her hero, saves her though he has plenty of his own demons to battle.
The only thing that could have made this book a little bit better, was if it had a little humor in it to soften some of the blows. All-in-all...a great, fast-paced read. Heading on to book #2 now...."The Hunt" with secondary characters from this book taking the lead.

A very good book filled with suspense and a little bit of romance. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I intend to read her other books.

Rowan Smith, former FBI agent and crime writer is living in LA while one of her books is made into a movie. Suddenly fictional crimes that she has written about are occuring in real life. Rowan is desperate to find out who is committing these crimes and her studio hires a bodyguard to watch over her. John Flyn , her bodyguard's brother soon becomes involved both with Rowan and with catching a diabolical criminal. Brennan really paints a picture of people who go through hell and come out the other side. There was romance, but it definitely secondary to the insanity and criminality that has Rowan and John racing against the clock.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I wouldn't call it overly suspenseful though, as it becomes apparent pretty early on who the villain is. Nevertheless, I just went to the library today to borrow the other 2 titles in this trilogy.
