Book Description:
New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen knows how to expertly dissect a brilliantly suspenseful story, all the while keeping fascinated readers riveted to her side. By turns darkly enthralling and relentlessly surprising, The Keepsake showcases an author at the peak of her storytelling powers.

For untold years, the perfectly preserved mummy had lain forgotten in the dusty basement of Boston's Crispin Museum. Now its sudden rediscovery by museum staff is both a major coup and an attention-grabbing mystery. Dubbed "Madam X," the mummy -- to all appearances, an ancient Egyptian artifact -- seems a ghoulish godsend for the financially struggling institution. But medical examiner Maura Isles soon discovers a macabre message hidden within the corpse -- horrifying proof that this "centuries-old" relic is instead a modern-day murder victim.

To Maura and Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli, the forensic evidence is unmistakable, its implications terrifying. And when the grisly remains of yet another woman are found in the hidden recesses of the museum, it becomes chillingly clear that a maniac is at large -- and is now taunting them. Archaeologist Josephine Pulcillo's blood runs cold when the killer's cryptic missives are discovered, and her darkest dread becomes real when the carefully preserved corpse of yet a third victim is left in her car like a gruesome offering -- or perhaps a ghastly promise of what's to come.

The twisted killer's familiarity with post-mortem rituals suggests to Maura and Jane that he may have scientific expertise in common with Josephine. Only Josephine knows that her stalker shares a knowledge even more personally terrifying: details of a dark secret she had thought forever buried. Now Maura must summon her own dusty knowledge of ancient death traditions to unravel his twisted endgame. And when Josephine vanishes, Maura and Jane have precious little time to derail the Archaeology Killer before he adds another chilling piece to his monstrous collection.

well, here's the first book by Tess Gerritsen that i could put down..even though I didn't! For some reason this book didn't grab me the way her other's have. Seemed a bit predictable and dry. An ok read but I prefer her others

This was a really great read. I haven't read a lot by this author, but this was a really intense book. I learned a lot about archeology and Egypt. There are a few twist throughout and I was drawn in right up the the last page. Highly recommended!!!!

Oh this book was good! Had me hooked from chapter 1 and would not let me put it down! Fast, gripping, exciting read with lots of twists and turns. Tess Gerritsen did it again with this book! This one falls in the Jane Rizolli/Maura Isles series. A must read for T.G. Fans and new comers to her work.

This was a gripping murder mystery featuring mummies, shrunken heads, bog bodies, psychopathic killers and some annoyingly contrived human drama which causes an investigator to make a crucial mistake to keep the suspense moving. I liked it okay, the mummies, bog bodies and head shrinking details held my attention but I felt a little distanced from the characters, some who seemed to make rather pitiful emotional choices so it isn't a book I'd reread.

Oh my! I guessed right about (page 200) who the Murderer was, but wow. There's no way I saw all of it coming. I have read most of her other books. This one is worth the money I spent on a new copy. It's a bit more history than I usually read, but not dry, and certainly relevant.
In comparison to her others, she doesn't get into the medical aspect as detailed as we've seen so much in her previous work. Still.....
An excellent mystery -- I recommend it.

Tess Gerritsen does not fail with her 8th book featuring M.E. Maura Isles and detective Jane Rizzoli. The victims in this story are found mummified and the technical details are fascinating at the same time as repelling. You will be on the edge of your seat!

I found this book truly enjoyable. While it was somewhat predicatable, it was still a great read. I love Tess Gerritsen's subject matter - the gorier the better. :) I would highly recommend this book especially as a summer read. Enjoy!

If you've ever been interested in archilogy, you would love this book. First a bullet is found in the leg of a mummy, then a shrunked head shows up where there are suppose to be two but there are three and then a bog woman is found in one of the museums archeologist trunk. Once it is determined these are preserved murder victims rather than archetectual finds the suspence begins to get deeper. This is a good page turner with a very intersting story line.
