Book Description:
The ruthless enforcer of Scotland's most powerful clan, Jamie Campbell will use any means necessary to vanquish lawlessness and unrest among the feuding Highland clans. Seduction is a game as easily played as subterfuge, but when Jamie poses as suitor to a rival clan's daughter in order to expose treason, the line between duty and pleasure is suddenly blurred. Ebony-haired, ruby-lipped Caitrina Lamont defies him, denies him, and arouses him like no other woman. Caitrina has no intention of forsaking her beloved father and doting brothers for a husband - especially a hated Campbell. But Jamie's raw, sensual strength and searing kiss melt her resistance. When her idyllic world is shattered, Caitrina's only hope to save her clan lies in the arms of Jamie Campbell, the enemy she holds accountable for its ruin. Can their tenuous truce, born in the velvet darkness of passionate nights, forge a love as strong as the sword that rules the Highlands?

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I am partial to Scottish historicals but I wasn't expecting to love Highland Warrior. I did love it. Jamie was an outstanding hero: tough, proud, loyal, fierce, determined... and yet caring and vulnerable where his love was concerned. Caitrina was too wishy-washy for my liking. Time and again her faith in her husband was tested and she made poor choices, but McCarty did a great job showing Caitrina's side and why she chose to do the things she did. I may not have agreed with her, but I could understand why she felt the way she did.

Overall I think this is a great book. I was swept up into the story and the setting, and I love a romance that makes you fall in love with the hero over and over again. Highly recommend this one!

Jamie Campbell sounds gorgeous, very many and oh so seductive. Poor wee lass, Caitrina Lamont doesn't stand a chance against his charms. Hated enemy or not! What a great dilemma she has in front of her...Jamie or her clan. Hummm I know who I'd choose. LOL

A great and terrible feud exists between the Campbell's and Lamont's. Caitrinia is a strong female loyal to her family and loathe to be exiled - like her Campbell mother - because of her attraction to Jamie. She fights this attraction as long as she can and then...disaster strikes and Jamie may be her only ally.

A spectacular start to the Campbell trilogy followed by Highland Outlaw. Monica McCarty writes the best tales of Scotland and of rugged Highlanders. Her descriptions are so real you can smell the sweat of the men and the heather of the highlands

I enjoyed this book mostly for the setting and the male lead - Jamie Campbell, a strong, take no prisoners warrior who knew what he wanted and went after it. He wasn't heartless though and went above and beyond to secure the heart of the woman he loved - Caitrina Lamont. However the only thing keeping this book from a 5 star review is the heroine Caitrina. She starts out spoiled and cosseted and even though she overcomes that with the death of her family - she reverts back to it later on in the book when push comes to shove and her husband needs and expects her loyalty. Otherwise a great book and I highly anticipate the next in this trilogy.

The hero is strong and strong willed, why he is attracted to the dithering heroine is still a bit of a mystery to me. Okay, she's beautiful. They spend most of their time misinterpreting each others intentions. The writing is okay, loads of backstory placed amongst the dialog. The dialog is not too Scottish, so makes for a quicker read than say, Sue Ellen Welfonder, but Sue Ellen also seems a bit more spot on with the historical setting. The sex is standard and understated e.g. "her most sensitive spot."
