Tremendously gifted Cara Colter writes another utterly romantic page turner with Her Second-Chance Man (4.5). British Columbia cop Brian has steered clear of emotions his whole life, preferring football and his old truck to commitment-minded females. When Brian becomes an instant dad to his grieving 13-year-old niece Michelle, he's at a loss for what to do, until earthy Jessica's enchanted surroundings work their magic on the girl. Colter gets the character of Michelle just right. She also conveys, with exquisite precision, the slow unfolding of love. Every sentence is a delight. Her work is tart and humorous, delicate and wise.
