Book Description:
Mary Winters harbored a secret deep within her heart. She'd borne the duke of Vail a child and was determined that no one -- not even the noble love of her life himself -- would ever uncover the truth.
Afire with the passion of youth, Nick Stanton had lain with Mary Winters. Now, scarred by warfare in mind and body, he feared he'd be no fit husband to his beloved or father to the son now claimed by another man, a man whose one desire was to wreak vengeance on them all!

This is the book that started my Gayle Wilson addiction. The title was a bit hokey, but I picked it up anyhow. The story of young lovers separated by bad luck and misunderstanding for years and many trials for them both. Their only hope for her freedom is his claim of a not quite legal secret marriage. Once they are together, the trials do not stop. Their son is legally another man's child.

Wildly improbable chain of events, but as entrtaining as it is improbable.
