First of a trilogy each written by a different romance writer. Each story centers around one of the members of the Raintree royal family. The Raintree clan is a group of people with supernatural powers (which are strongest in the royals). In this book, the eldest Raintree royal - Dante, who has power over fire, owns a Reno Casino and has just caught someone he thinks is stealing. Lorna Clay is this person - and she may have her own psychic powers, but she is strangely unable to fully acknowledge them. When they meet there is an immediate reaction from both on the psychic plane, but before they can get to the bottom of what it means or Lorna's ability is, the casino is set on fire. This is one of a few assassination attempts and Dante spends a lot of time in the book from that point on overriding Lorna's protests. He makes her stay by his side and do what he wants - literally. He finds that she is untrained and cannot block him from commanding her to do as he says. The story flowed at a fast pace, the Raintree vs Ansara (ancient enemies bent on Raintree destruction) storyline and characters were interesting, but I felt like many things could have been explored with more depth and I had trouble believing in the romance between the two main characters. The biggest difficulty I had was how Dante's treatment of Lorna was handled. Didn't really gel with me, but there is promise, and I'm interested in how the story will continue in the next 2 books.

Ha! Thought I could just read this book by itself. Now I have to go find the other books in this series, Raintree : Haunted by Linda Winstead Jones and Raintree : Sanctuary by Beverly Barton. Linda Howard is one of my favorite authors and she delivers the goods again in this book. I was actually chuckling out loud while reading. The only thing I want to know is, can't she write faster?

This book is a little different than Howards usual. It is a shorter book and I finished with it fast. It seemed somewhat skimpy on the story like it was edited down. Not my favorite book of hers but interesting enough to finish the trilogy.

I love Linda Howard's books. When I first started reading I had no idea it was part of a series. I thought I would be able to get away with just reading her part. No such luck though. The end is left up in the air. However, even if it wasn't, the book was so good I would have run out to get book 2 anyway.

Wow, what a disappointment! I LOVe Linda Howard, mainly her older books for Silhouette Intimate Moments, and I was hoping this one was a throwback. I should have thrown it back on the rack. It makes absolutely no sense. I could not have cared less for either lead character. The setting was wrong, the plot (?) was stupid. This has to be her worst book. Read it only if you have to.

I just bought the book and was unable to "finish" it. I tried and tried to get into it. Especially since Linda Howard is my favorite author ever! I think because this book was fantasy and I'm not into that genre.

The first in the Nocturne Raintree paranormal trilogy--each book with a different author. This one was a great beginning by popular author Linda Howard. The next is RAINTREE:HAUNTED by Linda Winstead Jones. Hope that one is as good as this one!

Bk 1 in a trilogy where each book is written by a different author. They don't say their wizards, but the Raintree clan have special gifts and powers. Really good story lines.
