Book Description:
Lizzie McKettrick is coming home for Christmas. And Indian Rock's new schoolteacher has a surprise in store for her family, a special young man, Whitley Carson. He might seem a little too interested in the McKettrick money, but Lizzie's certain Whitley cares for her deep down. Yet fate has a surprise of its own for Lizzie: Dr. Morgan Shane. When their homebound train is halted by a massive avalanche, injuring and stranding its passengers, the handsome doctor takes charge with Lizzie by his side. Despite their growing bond, Lizzie and Morgan know time is running out. With another avalanche looming and the train's food supply dwindling, it's going to be a bleak Christmas Eve. But with faith, hard work and a little extra help from a most unexpected source, they just might find their way home to celebrate a McKettrick family Christmas after all.

This short story revolves around Holt's oldest daughter. (The one he didn't meet until she was around 10 years old.) Lizzy is all grown up, done with her education and returning with her fiance to the McKettrick spread for Christmas to announce her engagement. During the ride, the train is derailed by an avalanche. You meet some interesting characters: a talking bird, a young mother and her children, a very ill soldier, a thoughtful peddler who turns out to be more than he appears to be, and a young doctor. Lizzy's fiance injures himself and she starts to have regrets about marrying him. In the meantime, she assists the young doctor in caring for the sick and injured, and the sparks soon fly.

This isn't a usual Linda Lael Miller book. There's not alot of passion and romance (usually her trademark). But, there are a couple of twists near the back of the book...one of which might help you get in the holiday spirit...and the warmth and family interactions of the McKettrick clan (from Grandpa Angus down to the smallest kiddies) during the Christmas season are always pleasant to read about.

I loved this book. I thought it was a heartwarming Christmas story about how when people are standed and away from home they find ways to make do with what they have and create wonderful memories and loving friendships. Wonderful end to the first McKettrick series.
Another winner by Linda Lael Miller.

This was my first time reading anything by this author, but I was not disappointed. It not only had romance, but a lot of "edge of your seat" action. A much different book than I was expecting. It was very heartwarming & a great book to read around the holidays. I would definitely recommend it.
