Book Description:
Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him as tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit, their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "What was I here?"

This was a very different type of book. I almost didn't finish it. Once I got into it more, I started to like it more. When you start to meet Eddie's people in Heaven, you can't help wonder who he will meet next. The best part, too, is that it's a short book and therefore doesn't take long to read.
A fast, fun read. Thought provoking book about what happens to us when we reach Heaven. I recommend you read this book!

All my friends loved this book. It is inspirational, but I have always had difficulty liking stories set in amusement park or circuses. It's probably a good thing everyone doesn't like the same things/books.
truly wonderful story told in a very different way. makes you stop and think a little, and smell the roses!
Eddie is a grizzled war veteran who feels trapped in a meaningless life of fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. Then, on his 83rd birthday, Eddie dies in a tragic accident trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. Eddie awakens in the Afterlife, where he learns that Heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden, but a place where your earthly life is explained to you by five people who were in it.

Excellent book that will change your life and the way you think about other people and yourself. Highly recommend.
