Book Description:
When Laura Fraser's husband leaves her for his high school sweetheart, she takes off, on impulse, for Italy, hoping to leave some of her sadness behind. There, on the island of Ischia, she meets M., an aesthetics professor from Paris with an oversized love of life. What they both assume will be a casual vacation tryst turns into a passionate, transatlantic love affair, as they rendezvous in London, Marrakech, Milan, the Aeolian Islands, and San Francisco. Each encounter is a delirious immersion into place (sumptuous food and wine, dazzling scenery, lush gardens, and vibrant streetscapes) and into each other. And with each experience, Laura brings home not only a lasting sense of pleasure, but a more fully recovered sense of her emotional and sexual self. Written with an observant eye, an open mind, and a delightful sense of humor, An Italian Affair has the irresistible honesty of a story told from and about the heart.

I read the book but found it upsetting. He is cheating on his wife and she seems so desparate. Not really worth the read.

This was a great travel book/memoir, actually written like a novel. I enjoyed the way it was written in the third person singular "you". I don't think I've ever read a story written in this format, so it was a unique enjoyable first experience. I read it in one day, really enjoying it, but the end did get sad, I felt sorry for the author. Her affair was exciting for a while, but unfortunately....... you must read it to find out!

The third person singular format is difficult to wade through, but once you find the rhythm the story is good and it certainly made me feel like a trip to Italy!

Like others who reviewed this I found it difficult to understand her having an affair with a married man after her husband left her for the another man. The travel was fun to read about and it was an easy read.

I loved this book, but was sad at the end for her. I wish the author would write another book continuing her adventure. It made me want more! I would recommend this book if you love travel books about italy.

I didn't find this romantic. I never find cheating romantic. The travel descriptions seems like out of a romance novel.

I loved this book! It will make you want to travel and/or regret that you have never taken a chance like this to see the world. It's insightful, thought-provoking, romantic and inspiring!

An interesting, romantic memoir - and it reads like a novel. I enjoyed this book even though initially I thought I would not. It surprised me.

Bittersweet memoir of a woman's sojourn in Italy to help adjust to her recent divorce. Unsentimental and real.
