The adventures of Dittany Henbit and the Spotted Pipsissewa are as ditzy as ever when Alisa Craig (Charlotte MacLeod) entertains us with her tales of Lobelia Falls.

Charlotte MacLeod, whether writing as Alisa Craig or under her own name, is one of my favorite writers of contemporary cozy mysteries. The characters are lovably whacky, the dialog is witty, and the plot keeps interests flowing. The zany character names alone keep me turning the page to see who shows up next. Here Miss Dittany Henbit and her fellow Grub-and-Stakers fight against those who would turn their Enchanted Mountain into a subdivision. If you are looking for a bunch of laughs between more weighty tomes, you can't do better than this.

Charlotte MacLeod was a superior writer of murder mysteries and will be missed. This is the first book in the series about the Grub and Stakers. It takes place in Canada and main character is Dittany Henbit. Grub and Stakers by the way are a Gardening group who also practic archery. I love this whole series, but I own 2 copies so here is one to share.

I loved the Grub-and-Stakers series! The characters are lovably wacky but still half-way believable. The situations are fun, and the writing is first-class. The books are just all-around fun.

Miss Dittany Henbit was incensed when a strange young man from the Water Department ran a bulldozer over the Enchanted Mountain's lovely wildflower preserve. No construction was permitted on the prime public land ... but then neither was murder. While the Spotted Pipsissewa was being carelessly crushed, someone was putting a hunting arrow through the Water Commissioner's heart. And Dittany found even her best friends, the members of the Grub-and-Stake Gardening and Roving Club were suspect. Especially when a bake sale cooked up big trouble and a Lobelia Falls election mixed all the ingredients of a sticky solution with very sudden death.

This is a wild crowd of bold and quirky personalities, improbable situations and it all works to create a great story.

First in the series. A typically witty & literate cosy set in Canada.

Too much profanity for me. I didn't finish it.
"Wildflowers, molasses cookies ...and homemade murder. Who on earth was disturbing the Spotted Pipsissewa? That's what Miss Dittany Henbit wanted know when she found a strange young man from the Water Department running a bulldozer over the already endangered wildflowers on the Enchantaed Mountain."
