Book Description:
As the inhabitants of Redwall Abbey bask in the glorious Summer of the Late Rose, all is quiet and peaceful. But things are not as they seem. Cluny the Scourge, the evil one-eyed rat warlord, is hell-bent on destroying the tranquility as he prepares to fight a bloody battle for the ownership of Redwall.

This dazzling story in the Redwall series is packed with all the wit, wisdom, humor, and blood-curdling adventure of the other books in the collection, but has the added bonus of taking the reader right back to the heart and soul of Redwall Abbey and the characters who live there.

Redwall is my favorite of the whole series, none of the other books come close, Mossflower is the closest, but nothing can compare with the story of good vs. bad, it's almost simple but not, it's alive, I can't describe it so I'm not gonna try, so, JUST READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the sort of book this is, I suppose it wasn't bad. The biggest flaw I found was that I just didn't feel pulled into the book, not really engaged. Perhaps it's unfair, but I keep wanting to compare books to my experience with The Golden Compass, which I absolutely loved and felt enchanted by. This book fell flat as far as that was concerned.

I also felt like it was a little predictable, at least from an adult reading perspective. Of course the evil rat Cluny can't be victorious until the end…otherwise, why would the book be so long? Each time the mice thwarted the rats plans, I felt like I could see it coming from a mile away.

Fun, wholesome fantasy/adventure for kids of all ages. Adults looking for a light read will also enjoy it.

Jacques wrote Redwall a long time before he wrote any of its sequels. I read a copy from the library when I was still a child and enjoyed it immensely. As an adult, I was quite pleased when sequels started appearing in the bookstore! I still find the courageous mice and other animals as charming as ever.

I thouroughly enjoy the Redwall series by Brian Jacques; if you read them when you were younger, the books lose little enjoyment for older readers.

When the peaceful life of ancient Redwall Abbey is shattered by the arrival of the evil rat Cluny and his villainous hordes, Matthias, a young mouse, determines to find the legendary sword of Martin the Warrior which, he is convinced, will help Redwall's inhabitants destroy the enemy.

This is the most delightfull tale I have read in years. The first book of an equally delightfull series. The mouse apprentice monk Matthias picks up the sword of Martin the warrior and goes in defense of Redwall Abbey against the infamous rat Cluny The Scourge and his rat army.
