Book Description:
The first Cornwell book to introduce Dr. Kay Scarpetta. Under the leafy cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a human monster moves undetected, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that has paralyzed the city. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta senses the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer -- a "Mr. Nobody" -- whose signatures offer precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she must call on the latest advances in forensic research to have a chance at unmasking the maniac. But this investigation will test Kay like no other, because it's being sabotaged from within - and someone wants her dead.

Convincing mystery that is thrilling right to the end. This is the first in the Kay Scarpetta series and I will be sure to read the others.

I just read this book on the recommendation of a coworker....and now I am definitely planning to read more in the Kay Scarpetta series by this author. Well written, compelling storytelling, unexpected turns...a must read.

This book is right up there with the rest of Patricia Cornwell's mystery detective novels. Unable to put it down once you start reading!

Not just another muder mystery. Well Plotted, well-written and a chilling ending. Very real with well laid clues.

Very good - she makes you want to grow up to be just like Kay Scarpetta! (although it's a little too late for that!)

I honestly can't say how I liked this book. My late husband loved the Kay Scarpetta novels but I found them a little gruesome. This one concerns "Mr. Nobody", a serial killer apparently.

This is the first Kay Scarpetta novel. VERY interesting .. particularly in how things have changed - in this one, the ME's office has one shared computer, DNA is not a big factor, etc. Good storyline and fascinating to read if you want to start from the beginning. Lucy is in it, but she's 10 years old (a computer whiz though!)

I liked it alot. The forensic aspects of it are nice.. It was a little hard for me to get into though.. Will definatly continue on in the series though. I love female leads

Perhaps not QUITE as good as a few of the others, but a very acceptable thriller.
