Book Description:
There are crimes so sudden, so heartless, and so terrible, they can shatter the strongest of faiths...

A man walks into a trendy Los Angeles restaurant -- a disgruntled ex-employee with an automatic weapon -- and seconds later, thirteen people are dead and thirty-two more have been wounded. It is a heinous act of mass slaughter that haunts Homicide Detective Peter Decker.

But, though eyewitnesses saw only the lone gunman -- who apparently took his own life after his bloody work was done -- evidence suggests more than one weapon was fired. It is a disturbing inconsistency that sends Decker racing headlong into a sordid, labyrinthine world of Southern California money and power, on an investigation that threatens to destroy his reputation and his career.

My 1st Faye Kellerman novel & I plan to read more. I've never come across Orthodox Jewish detectives before & the culture is worked into the plot quite naturally. A good mystery.

Serpent's Tooth is something of a surprise because Faye Kellerman's mysteries are usually so upfront and personal.... here she deviates from her formula by putting Decker in charge of a mass murder at a fashionable L.A. eatery. The scope of the investigation is broad and the moralizing is kept to a minimum, giving Decker a rare chance to do some solid police work.

The novel begins with a horrific mass murder in a fashionable restaurant. Lieutenant Decker is put in charge of the investigation and he starts to uncover the layers of corruption involving many of the victims and their family members. This thriller has good character development and a strong story line. If you are a mystery buff, you will love this suspensful novel! Warning--some foul language used gratuitously.

This is my favorite Peter Decker book so far. You see a lot more of his family in this book in an unexpected but fun way. A must read if you like the Decker books.
