I just recently finished this book. It is the diary of a 14 yr old girl. You see and for me at 44, remember what it was like to be a teen and how exaggerated our emotions are at that age. I Loved the Positive outlook "Nancy" has on life and really came to like her a lot. Even though I knew how the story ends, it still hurt me when it did. The devastation that is AIDS and the raw innocence of youth is captured in this young lady's well written words. I felt like I got to really know her as I was reading the words and was crushed at the end. I hope she knew that her being raped wasnt her fault but sensed that sometimes she thought it could have been. And then to get AIDS too? So sad.. And I hope he had to pay for what he did. As you can tell, I really liked this book--it is a must read for teens, preteens and adults. And I would like to add--People.. Please be safe and sorry to say, but you cant trust anyone. Poor Nancy did and see what happened to her! Very honest, touching story. My heart goes out to her parents, family and friends, I know they all still love and miss her!

Excellent real life story of a young girl with AIDS. This is taken directly from her diary so it really pulls at the heart strings. This story has really stayed with me. With so many medical shows on tv that focus on science and techology, it is nice to read about the person who is sick. Bittersweet.

Excerpts from Nancy's diary. She was raped at 14 years old and was infected with HIV. This is the story of how she dealt with her situation, up until the time of her death.

Nancy was an innocent 14 year old when she fell in love for the very first time. But the dream come true didn't last. This is Nancy's own story, taken from the pages of her diary as she faces the cruel reality of AIDS.

I read this book in one sitting. It is in diary form. The book perfectly shows the thoughts and feelings of a 14 year old girl and she falls in love for the first time.
When my daughter gets a bit older (she's 11), I think I will have her read this. It shows that anything can happen to anyone.
Nancy made some poor choices, but they are the same poor choices that teenages everywhere are making. Her choices had tragic consequences. The book is aptly named, as I think most teenagers think "It won't happen to me." But it CAN.
I was left with many questions at the end and would have like to see more written in the epilogue.

This was a sad story. Typical of Beatrice Sparks' "edited journals", the writing style seemed a bit forced in places.
