This was a very good series about a group of people competing in their magical aspects of Earth,Air,Spirit,Fire and Water. Lots of intrigue and danger. 1st of 5 books by Sharon Green.

Definitely more fantasy than science fiction, this book introduces you to the drama of the following books in the series - which is a good thing, as there is everything from familial to sexual to political tensions creeping up at every opportunity.

Parts of this one get tedious, with introductions to the characters, as Green seems somewhat unable to have them realize the capabilities of each of their respective elemental magicks in an original way. As the characters are introduced to each other, they are again, made to go through somewhat of a routine, that gets tedious to read.

However, as a whole, this book will suck you in and it will make you want to read the second, which I suggest you do, if you are a fan of fantasy in the elemental magic realm.

I think this series moves a little slow, but the storyline is above average and keeps your interest. I hate hanging endings like this author uses to get you to buy the next book.
