Book Description:
The Pope is coming to breakfast, and Madeline Bean's got frittatas on the skillet. What a coup for gourmet caterer Mad Bean and her company, the event-planning wizards, chosen to mastermind L.A.'s official welcoming extravaganza. Pulling off the early morning meal for His Holiness, and two thousand high profile bigwigs, sounds like great fun for the unflappable Ms. Bean.

But things quickly go from serene to sinister when a young priest turns up dead in the bed of an uninhibited Hollywood star, and a yellowed page of Latin scrawl, found tucked in an old book of mouthwatering Church recipes, reveals a mysterious Jesuit Brother's shocking past. Even the course of Madeline's ragged love life gets a jolt as charming Xavier Jones, the man who left her at the altar ten years ago, reappears and still won't explain why he bugged out. With the Pope arriving any day, it's up to Madeline to sort out this unholy mess of burnt brioche, tantalizing treasure, pesky naked starlets, and homicidal caterers-or a party that should go down in history could be history before it even begins.

An enjoyable addition to the Madeline Bean Catering Cozy Mystery series..somehow Madeline gets the job to cater a massive breakfast for the Pope when he visits LA - an old love surfaces, a young priest turns up dead...
Not my favorite Madeline Bean (that would be Mumbo Gumbo) but a fine read nonetheless.

i like "Mad" Bean. She is a fun character and so are her friends.

The books are quick reads.

This one deals with the first function handled by her new company - a breakfast for 2,000 people and the Pope! Madeline's first love, and ex-fiancee, shows up, asking for her help in compiling a recipe book containing old recipes from the Jesuit Priests (now we know why he is an ex-fiancee). They come across a portion of an old journal, composed in Latin, from a brother saying he had killed someone and referred to a plot against the Pope. Thinking it to be old, they decide to do some research. Between compiling the recipes, doing research on the journal, finalizing the details for the Pope's breakfast, dealing with being dumped by her current boyfriend, seeing her ex-fiancee after 10 years, and also harboring feelings for the policeman who works the case - well Madeline is busy, to say the least!

Madeline Bean is preparing to serve the Pope his morning meal on a visit to LA when a young priest is found dead in a Hollywood star's bed! Then a mysterious letter falls from an ancient Jesuit Cookbook and seems to be part of a confession from a mysterious Jesuit Brother in the past! Madeline's ex-fiance, who left her at the alter to join the Jesuit brothers, appears and Madeline has to solve the mysteries and prepare the food before the Pope arrives!!

Another entry in the Mad Bean Catering series.

This was a fun read, although I can't imagine catering a breakfast for the pope with a staff of three. And the mystery was interesting too, lots of looking back to WWII.
