Book Description:
Patricia Cornwell's heroine Dr. Kay Scarpetta is back to solve the mystery of the death of an Associated Press reporter who was killed while nosing about in a decommissioned navy yard. Scarpetta's involvement in the case leads her to be targeted for murder herself by a nasty little neo-fascist cult with delusions of grandeur that include a plan to "kill and maim, frighten, brainwash and torture" all who oppose their plan to rule the world. Helping Scarpetta is her niece Lucy, an F.B.I. agent whose computer expertise leads to a heart-stopping journey into cyberspace.

The whole story line is excellent only the solutions to the murder seems contrived but it is overall a good read.

So far, this was the best book in the series, even though parts of it, as well as characters, were fairly predictable. My only big complaint is that, once again, the ending felt a little rushed, but at least it was better written than in some of the previous books. And at least, not all the bad guys died because of trying to have some type of vendetta against Kay, even though she still managed to be there for at least one. She does seem to get around like that. Some easy reading if anyone likes forensic mysteries.

This is another Scarpetta novel. 30-feet below the Elizabeth River's icy surface a scuba diver is dead, an investigative reporter who was a favorite at the Medical Examiner's Office. Then a second murder occurs. This book brillantly delivers high-tension and suspense.

I like Cornwell, I enjoy her mysteries. But 15 minutes after I put one down I can't remember which one was which. Another well-written formulaic mystery with typical Cornwell gore. Fun fluff.

Copyright 1993, so some of the technical details are dated, but the premise is a current one and the overall action is quite interesting.

Enjoyed this Kay Scarpetta book as well as all the others that I have read. Stories are always fast paced. Not only does Kay have the duty of finding the answers in the death of a reporter, but also one of her own.....

Patricia Cornwells Kay Scarpetta is a character who becomes addicting. Smart, Funny, brave, and tough she is a character who sticks with you, and you will find yourself wanting to read the whole series. Chapters are on the shorter side so the book is easier to digest.

Dr. Kay Scarpetta must solve an old murder that took place thirty feet below a river's icy surface. In addition to the old crime scene, a new one emerges with an investigative reporter dying. This book in the Scarpetta series was one of my favorites.
