Ten years ago, Sarah Mason's six-year-old daughter vanished during an outing at a local park in Beaufort, SC. Despite a furious search, little Lexie was never found, and Sarah was left to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and go on as best she could.
Then, on one hot July night, she returns home from work to hear the phone ringing. When she picks it up, a child's terrified voice whispers, "Mommy, help, come and get me ..." The call is cut off, but not before Sarah's heart goes into overdrive: the voice belongs to Lexie. Six-year-old Lexie. Though ten years have passed, she sounds exactly the same.
Frantic, Sarah turns to the police, the FBI, family, and friends, none of whom can help. Out of desperation, she approaches Jake Hogan, once a detective assigned to Lexie's case. Jake is now a P.I., and though he is skeptical, the attraction he feels for Sarah pushes him to help her.
Ben is convinced someone is deliberately tormenting the grief-stricken mother, and the continued tension of sketchy and unpredictable clues forces them to rely only on each other. Together they're caught in a nightmare search for Lexie, who might just still be alive -- if only Jake and Sarah can hang on.

Very good reading and hard to put down. A mother confronts her worst nightmares. Seven years ago her five year old daughter vanished and was never found.

This was a good book, kept me in suspense until the end. Although I would have liked it to go into more detail concerning the ending.

This book 'had me' from the first page. Great story, with mystery, suspense, twists, and romance. The ending seemed a bit abrupt, and left me feeling like I wanted at least one more chapter.

Although the plot of VANISHED has been done many times, Karen Robards brings her own unique talents to this tale of a lost child. Not up to her usual standards of plot it does carry her trademark of unconnected events which finally come togather in a very remarkable way. My greatest complaint is the whinny, clingy, unstable heroine. She is a prosecutor who is supposed to be one of the best, she goes after her job fully, yet doesn't eat, falls apart easily, and hasn't seen her best friend, who is a sexy male P I in any way other than a friend in seven years. Give me a break, some I could overlook, but not wanting comfort of food, entertainment, or sex for seven years. NOt likely.
Sarah Mason is 31, seven years ago her 5 year old daughter went missing from a park. Lexie has not been heard from since, but Sarah has been searching for her with the help of Jake Hogan for the whole seven years. She is a prosecutor in the DA's office. Her whole life centers on her job and her search for her child.
Jake Hogan is a former FBI agent who has gone into the private sector. He runs his grandfather's private investigation agency. Jake is a man's man and a woman's too. Strong, giving, and ready to do anything to protect the woman he has come to love while furnishing her with family, hope, and security in her life for the last seven years. Even he has trouble believing her tales of phone calls from her kidnapped daughter after seven years.

Nothing real suspenseful happens in this book until towards the end but it's a good story. I like the way it was written. Very enjoyable.
