Book Description:
Spenser smells corruption in a college town. Taft University's hottest basketball star is shaving points for quick cash. All manner of sleaze -- from corrupt academics to hoods with graduate degrees -- have their fingers in the pot.

Spenser's search takes him from lecture halls to blue collar bars and finally into a bloody confrontation with almost certain death. But Spenser saves an arrogant young athlete -- even though it nearly kills him to do it.

"Spenser is a tough as they come and spiked with a touch of real class." (Kirkus Reviews)

The 16th Spenser. The plot for this one is collegiate basketball and gambling. Addresses several social issues in a nice way - thought-provoking without beating you over the head with it.

Gotta love Spenser!

I really enjoyed reading this book.

I love nearly everything this author has ever written. Robert B. Parker is the master of witty dialogue and great characters. Spenser is a likeable tough-talking Galahad disguised as a street-smart ex-boxer detective, and Parker is a really fantastic writer, very subtle, who can say a LOT with just a LITTLE! You can't lose with a Spenser novel. Try the new Jesse Stone or Sunny Randall novels as well, though they are a bit formulaic (Sunny is a very estrogen amped version of Spenser), they're still worth your time! You won't be sorry!
