Book Description:
Murder, in hot blood and cold... madness, deep into the bone... John Sandford's newest thriller is his most chilling novel yet. In his forth Lucas Davenport novel, he has created his most spellbinding story of all.

His guards slain, the brilliant, insane pathologist of Eyes of Prey flees to New York, there to continue his experiments, searching the eyes of his dying victims for what they can reveal, the mounting body count causing an uproar in the city.

In desperation, the police reach out for the man who knew Bekker best, but when Lucas arrives, he finds unexpected danger as well. For Lily Rothenburg, the policewoman whose intense affair with Lucas has never completely faded, is there too. Now, consumed with her own investigation of a group of rogue killers within the police department, she draws Lucas into her orbit again, until their hunts merge, their twin obsessions driving them ever closer to the edge... and then over.

SILENT PREY is the fourth book in the "Lucas Davenport" series, and I thought it was a worthwhile read. This novel is an unofficial sequel to EYES OF PREY, and features the same serial killer villain, who breaks out of prison to terrorize New York. So my first piece of advice is to read EYES OF PREY before reading this novel.

This book is well written, but I thought there was too much plot. Not only is Davenport on the trail of a serial killer, but he's also after a group of police vigilantes known as the "Robin Hoods." The vigilante plot is convoluted and complex, and I had some problems keeping all the names and plotlines straight. The serial killer stuff is essentially a retread of what you read in EYES OF PREY -- the killer pretty much thinks and acts the same way as he did in the prior book. So there's nothing new or original here.

Sandford's a fine writer, but I thought this effort was a relative disappointment compared to some of his other Prey books.

Book 4 of the Lucas Davenport series and a continuation of the storyline involving Bekker the baddie from Eyes of Prey. This book takes Davenport to NY to assist one of his old flames on the Bekker case in addition to investigating th "Robin Hood" killers. This book was pretty good. The mystery aspect kept me guessing. I enjoy reading about Davenport but his many women conquests drive me nuts.

Well this is a continuation of Bekker and a great one at that. I was happy to see Lily return but I'm ok with how that all worked out. Bekker is such a crazy character, I wonder how these authors think of these things. I had to reread a few parts to understand what was going on in second story line but did figure it out. This was a good book and I will continue on this series.

Wow. Another twisted ending in a book about Davenport chasing Bekker. I kept giong back and forth with who the 'bad/good' guy was. The way Bekker was escaping setection was interseting and suprising.

Another Lt. Davenport adventure! Lt. Davenport should have killed Bekker instead of putting him in prison. Once, Bedder indulged his brilliant obsession with death; now he is in prison. Once, he was hunted by a man who understood the genius of murder; now he wants revenge...Today, Bekker escapes.

A continuation of the "battle" between Davenport and Bekker. Be sure to read the Prey series in order. The characters appear in later books and it's a more interesting read when you recognize them.

This one was REALLY good. I like all the Lucas Davenport books, but this one is exceptionally good. The character of Lucas Davenport becomes more established and he is very likeable.

A crime thriller about a escaped serial killer pursued by the tough smart detective (who isn't afraid to play by his own rules when he needs to) that caught him the first time.
