At the seance, Mrs. Hodges was a bit taken aback by the mediums' dire prediction. But she soon dismissed it as stuff and nonsense. After all, she was a woman who knew her own mind and minded everyone else's. But that very night, Mrs. Hoddges was murdered and the Inspector's on the case. He doesn't have a crystal ball to tell him whodunit, but he does have Mrs. Jeffries. She keeps house for Inspector Witherspoon and keeps him on his toes. Everyone's awed by his Scotland Yard successes, but they don't know about his secret weapon. No matter how messy the murder or how dirty the deed, Mrs. Jeffries' polished detection skills are up to the task. A great series set in Victorian England.

Very good mystery series. Set in the 1800s. The servants of Inspector Witherspoon realize they've got the best master ever but not quite the smartest so they solve his mysteries without him knowing they do so that they can keep there happy home going. In this one a demanding, domineering woman doesn't believe it when the medium at the seance tells her she will die - but she does. The servants don't believe it has anything to do with the supernatural and they set out to prove it is a very human and horrible crime.
