Book Description:
No affairs. No criminal connections. No DNA. No clues. Eve Dallas may be the best cop in the city - not to mention having the lavish resources of her husband Roarke at her disposal - but the Swisher case has her baffled. The family members were murdered in their beds with brutal, military precision. The state-of-the-art security was breached, and the killers used night vision to find their way through the cozy middle-class house. Clearly, Dallas is dealing with pros. The only mistake they made was to overlook the nine-year-old girl cowering in the dark in the kitchen...

Now Nixie Swisher is an orphan - and the sole eyewitness to a seemingly inexplicable crime. Kids are not Dallas's strong suit. But Nixie needs a safe place to stay, and Dallas needs to solve this case. Not only because of the promise she made to Nixie. Not only for the cause of justice. But also to put to rest some of her own darkest memories - and deepest fears. With her partner Peabody on the job, and watching her back - and with Roarke providing the kind of help only he can give - Lieutenant Eve Dallas is running after shadows, and dead-set on finding out who's behind them.

The bookstore sold this one autographed!
I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.

I don't really review books, but I have read all the In Death series up to this book and I love them all but I have to say that to date this has been the best one.

I enjoyed this one. A bit different from the usual Eve Dallas. Maybe children are in the future! A hope anyway.

Without a doubt, a MUST read.

Great book, interesting action. Futuristic - I wouldn't think I would enjoy this book but I really liked it. I want to read the series now.

Wonderful series! I can't get enough of the "In Death" series. Suspense, romance & mystery all wrapped into one.

No affairs. No criminal connections. No DNA. No Clues. Only a nine year old girl - the only survivor. Can they keep her alive long enought to capture the guilty?
