Book Description:
A Category Four hurricane has swept the west coast of Florida, creating havoc, changing lives, and reshaping the ocean bottom. It also uncovers a long-forgotten shipwreck that leads Doc Ford to an old woman in a secluded, worn-down mansion. She tells him the haunting story of a lost love, and of her chance to discover the truth if Ford will salvage the boat-the Dark Light. Intrigued, Ford agrees, and sets in motion a chain of events that will change his life forever. For there are other things in that wreck as well. Things other men want. Things worth killing for. And behind it all is an old woman whose heart remains the greatest mystery of all...

If you haven't read Rany Wayne White's Doc Ford series, than you have missed out on some terrific stories. Witty, charming and dangerous. Doc Ford is the go-to guy for people at Dinkins Bay. Knows his prose.

In the beginning, this series was about a marine scientist (with a hidden past) and a bunch of eccentrics in a small marina in Sanibel, FL who ran into situations that needed fixing, gradually revealing various hidden talents of the characters. Over time, Doc Ford became more "covert action guy of the world" with a "dark side" than "science nerd who can really surprise you". This book is a throwback to the earlier books in the series - *loved it*. :)

Another very good Randy Wayne White book with lots of action, interesting history, Local lore, and twisting and turning plots. Keeps you turning pages and enoying the action of the SW Florida character of "Dr. Marion Ford" and the locals of the small fishing islands.

A category 4 hurricane has swept the west coast of florida. Doc Ford puts his life back together and dives on an old shipwreck unearthed by the storm. Is an entertaining book, but only light reading.

Not his best, but very good. Anything by White is sure to be a good read.

I enjoyed this one centered around a marine biologist who may be an on-call CIA spook, or something similar, and his friends on Sanibel Island. A shipwreck is found shortly after a devastating hurricane hits the island. The timing coincides with a crooked businessman stealing the boats from his damaged marina and trying to cover up past actions. Finally, add a beautiful mystery woman. The plot is like a walk on the Florida shore - sometimes full speed ahead and sometimes a tricky maneuver through the mangroves. Thrilling, unusual, grabbed my attention.

Slightly different than most of the books in this series. Very surreal and much more depth of character to Doc Ford. Really enjoyed it (but then I really like this series regardless!).
