Book Description:
In a rehabbed Spur station outside the small town of Kindred, three semi-desperate, forty-plus women have launched the Cackleberry Club. Eggs are the morning specialty here -- fluffy omelets, slumbering volcanoes, toad in the hole, and eggs on a cloud. This cozy little cafe even offers a book nook and knitting nest -- and business has been good. But two murders, a runaway girl, a vicious widow, and a messianic cult leader just might lead to their undoing.

This could be a really good new series for Laura Child. I really enjoy her tea series and am just so-so on the scrapbooking ones. This series includes tea but not to the extent of her other series.

This is about 3 women that run the Cackleberry Club which is a diner, book nook, knitting room and they also sell local homemade goods.

The local lawyer is killed behnd the restaurant and Suzanne finds the body and of course has to figure out who did it. She also gets involved because the city council is accusing her dead husband of taking a $4 million kickback from the building of the new prison in town.

It is an enjoyable book and I look forward to the next in the series

A great beginning of a new series. There is lots of action and alot of mysteries to be solved by the owner of The Cackleberry Club, Suzanne and her team of Petra and Toni. Good development of characters for a first book. I would rank this series just below the Tea Shop Mysteries as my favorite. I will definately be looking for the next installment in this series. A bit of mild profanity, seems out of place actually, doesn't seem to do much for the novel. She'd have been better off to keep up with the standards she has set for Tea Shop. IMHO.

Laura Childs has written another series that is going to be great. Suzanne, Toni, and Petra are on their own and have their own business. The Cackleberry Club cafe and has a murder in their parking lot. Great story and twists and turns trying to figure out who the guilty party is. This one I didn't know the murderer until the very end. Recommend, especially if you like Laura Childs. Even if you haven't read her other series this is a great first one.

I read and enjoyed this book, but it has a common pet peeve I have regarding Cozies. The solution didn't really come together at the end. (I could say more, but don't want to spoil the end for anybody.) It had kind of a "rabbit out of a hat" feel when the solution came around. But overall, it was well-written and I enjoyed it. I'll probably check out more in the series. 4 stars.

This is a wonderful book! I want to have a shop just like the Cackleberry Club! This is another series by Laura Childs of the Tea Shop and Scrapbooking series. This one by far is my favorite. The characters are well written and their development is solid. I liked Suzanne a lot, much more so than Theo in the Tea Shop mysteries.

Suzanne gets herself involved in the murder of her lawyer and does a little snooping of her own.

I love the comraderie between the three women, and how they stand together through good and bad. The atmosphere of the Club comes through in the writing, and I wish there was a place in my hometown just like it.

Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

I want to own the cafe in this book!

Three ladies who have lost thier husbands in one way or another come together to start a business and help each other. They open The Cackleberry Club, a cafe with delicious food, afternoon tea, a book section and a knitting section.

The local lawyer is found dead behind the cafe and the ladies find themselves in the midst of the mystery.

Love the story, delightful characters. I tried reading Laura Childs tea shop books but could not get into them. The Cackleberry Club is a series I will definitely be watching for more!

I love Laura Childs books and this new series is a wonderful read. Characters are interesting and charming. As always her books keep you on the end of your seat trying to figure out the clues and killer. If you enjoy mysteries and especially series mysteries, you will enjoy this book.

Eggs in Purgatory is book one in a new cozy series by Laura Childs. Suzanne, Petra and Toni are three middle aged friends who start their own cafe in the quiet town of Kindred. But, when a local lawyer is killed in their parking lot, scandal erupts in Kindred and Suzanne is right in the middle of it. This book is the right mix of murder, friendship and good cooking. It also includes recipes!

I was looking forward to reading this series since I'm a big fan of her Tea Shop series. Unfortunately, this isn't written in the same style. Unnecessary bad language, for one, really turned me off; it seemed very out of place. Not what I expect from a cozy mystery.

As always, Laura Childs delivers an enjoyable, light mystery. A little different scenario than her teashop & scrapbooking series. Interesting new characters!

As usual with Laura Childs, loved this mystery. Great start to a new group of characters. Very enjoyable. Looking for more of the same. Childs never, never disappoints. All her characters are exceptional.
