Book Description:
London, 1850. An enormous ship has just reached port. From its hull, a flock of bats ascends and disappears into the streets. Jack Harkett intends to board the ship, in search of food or money. This was a pretty good introduction to a series for youths. It was fun to read aloud as a family.

I pre-read this for my 8 year old, and was glad I did. I'd save it for when she's maybe 12. The language and concepts weren't difficult, but the subject matter got a little gruesome. I thought it was a good read, for older kids and adults.
