Book Description:
Meet John and Philippa Gaunt, twelve-year-old twins who one day discover themselves to be descended from a long line of djinn. All of a sudden, they have the power to grant wishes, travel to extraordinary places (and not necessarily on public transportation), and make people and objects disappear. Luckily (and luck does have something to do with it), the twins are introduced to their eccentric djinn-Uncle Nimrod, who will teach them how to harness their newly found power. And not a moment too soon!

P.B. Kerr Children of the Lamp The Akhenaten Adventure is a great start to the series. John and Philippa Gaunt are 12 year old twins. Little do they know that they are both also Djinns (genies)who have the power to grant people their every desire. The twins are contacted through dreams at the same time by their Djinn Uncle Nimrod through dreams who quickly tells them that they are Djinns and that they are to visit him in Europe. But he also tells them not to tell their parents. Their Uncle teaches them about their history and heritage and starts them off on a quest to stop a power hungry Djinn Akhenaten who is supposed to be dead!! Can the twins develop and control their powers quickly enough to help their Uncle Nimrod stop this supposedly dead evil Djinn?

Scholastic cover different, first edition October 2004, great story for 8-15 years of age. If your kids read Harry Potter, this will be right along the same line. What if you woke up one morning to discover you are a genie?
