Book Description:
In suburban Georgetown a killer's Reeboks whisper on the front floor of a posh home... In a seedy D.C. porno house a patron is swiftly garroted to death... The next day America learns that two of its Supreme Court justices have been assassinated. And in New Orleans, a young law student prepares a legal brief... To Darby Shaw it was no more than a legal shot in the dark, a brilliant guess. To the Washington establishment it was political dynamite. Suddenly Darby is witness to a murder -- a murder intended for her. Going underground, she finds there is only one person she can trust -- an ambitious reporter after a newsbreak hotter than Watergate -- to help her piece together the deadly puzzle. Somewhere between the bayous of Louisiana and the White House's inner sanctums, a violent cover-up is being engineered. For someone has read Darby's brief. Someone who will stop at nothing to destroy the evidence of an unthinkable crime.

Been a while since I read this one, but it was my favorite John Grisham book. The movie was ok, but in my opinion it was a somewhat feeble attempt at portraying the book. There are some complexities (storylines, character development) in the novel that just didn't translate into the movie. Even if you've seen the movie, you should read this one - the story will make more sense!

A John Grisham book is always good, but this wasn't my favorite. There were SO MANY CHARACTERS introducted, at least 30, that I had to start writing down who everybody was and refer back to it.

Good story, but kind of scary to think about.

I LOVE GRISHAM's WORKS! This is one of my personal favorites, but it is slightly slower than a few of his other works.

Pretty good. Nothing like the movie, but that's not unusual. An "out to get the big bad corporate guys" book, in that way similar to Runaway Jury.

A definate thrill. Thsi book is 10 times the movie if you saw it. Intriguing and suspenseful as Darby Shaw realizes she is the target for a murder but she must figure out why.
