Book Description:
Jack Reacher : the ultimate loner.
An elite ex-military cop who left the service years ago, he's moved from place to place…without family…without possessions…without commitments. And without fear. Which is good, because trouble—big, violent, complicated trouble—finds Reacher wherever he goes. And when trouble finds him, Reacher does not quit, not once…not ever. But some unfinished business has now found Reacher. And Reacher is a man who hates unfinished business. Ten years ago, a key investigation went sour and someone got away with murder. Now a chance encounter brings it all back. Now Reacher sees his one last shot. Some would call it vengeance. Some would call it redemption. Reacher would call it…justice.

I keep coming back to Lee Child's books. They start fast (The first line in this book is "The cop climbed out of his car exactly four minutes before he got shot.") They have plenty of dropped clues. They feature a larger than life main character. And they tie up nicely in climaxes with plenty of twists. At times a little formulaic, often somewhat farfetched, yet each book draws me in.

3.5 stars out of 5

Reacher. Can't say enough about the character. Keeps me turning pages so fast I forget to take a break. In this one, He goes undercover for the DEA to help them out with a little 'off the books' mission. That clock in his head - I sure could use!! Can't wait to read the next one. Even if you don't read them in order, you will have a great read.

I'm in love with Jack Reacher! Great book, as usual, with Jack at his best. Highly recommend that you start reading this series of Lee Child books.

I love the Jack Reacher character. A man who lives by a personal code. Lots of action, and a great story. The story is written in such a spare but powerful way. I can hardly wait to start the next Jack Reacher book!

Another great Jack Reacher story... Exciting and suspenseful. I've read a handful of these books, and Reacher is quickly becoming one of my favorite literary characters. I can't wait to read the rest!

Let me start out by saying that I really enjoy Lee Child's writing, and totally have a crush on Jack Reacher. I've enjoyed all of his books to date. I was excited to get into this book and see what Jack's next adventure was. But by the 3rd chapter, I realized this was one I was just not going to enjoy. There was something.....off... about this book. I can't really put my finger on it, but it's almost as if a really really big fan of Child's took it upon themselves to write a book about Jack Reacher but never quite got to the author's level.
The storyline was great, but the characters had no depth to them, and even Reacher's character seemed two-dimensional. The background of the story and why Reacher agrees to help the DEA with an investigation is so drawn out it's like pulling teeth, and you get nothing until the 2nd half of the book.
Reacher thought too much, overreacted or didn't react at all, and just mainly annoyed me, which has never happened. He fell flat all around and it's like the author lost that part of him that taps into Reacher.

I'm hoping it's just a fluke, because I've read all of Child's books but the newest one and everyone is entitled to a stinker now and then. And this one was it for me.

First book I've read of this author/series. The main character, Jack Reacher, is best described as Spenser without Hawk or Susan (or a permanent home or any belongings beyond the clothes he's wearing). It was hard to put it down.
